Residence Life Team – Guest Blog

Today is a Guest Blog written by Helen Anderson from the Residence Life Team. She is advising you all on the support the Team can provide and future events which are coming up that you can take part in.

RLT-2016
We know that at the beginning of the year, you receive lots of information about the University and the city, and it can be rather overwhelming and hard to remember everything. It’s easy to forget which service does what, or who to call if a problem crops up.

A big part of the Residence Life Team’s role is to remember all this for you – we provide support throughout your time in residence, and can always signpost you to other services if you need their help. A Mentor from our team – a current student with experience of university life – will visit students in residence throughout the year, and Team Leaders are on duty every evening to help with more complex problems. You can contact us via email if there’s anything you’d like to talk about. We’re happy to help with all kinds of issues, not just things that relate directly to your accommodation.

We hope that things are going smoothly for you so far, and that you’re starting to feel settled. It’s very normal, though, if that hasn’t happened for you yet, or if you’re finding that things aren’t quite as you pictured when you imagined what university would be like. Please do feel free to talk to us if that’s the case – we’ll do our best to help.

If you are feeling a bit isolated or unsettled, one thing which can really help is to get involved with some events and activities. This might mean joining a society, taking up a sport, or doing some volunteering or fundraising – whatever you like the sound of best. In addition to all these opportunities, the Residence Life Team run a range of events throughout the year for residents to enjoy.  You can find out about what we have planned on our website – events coming up this term include trips to Cardiff and to Bath Christmas Markets, a chance to see our local football team in action, and free quiz nights. We’ll continue to add more events throughout the year, so please keep an eye on our website for updates. We hope you’ll have a great time in residence, and we look forward to meeting you throughout the year.
