HR Distinction Awards 2018 Finalist - Apprenticeships

Posted by on 17 November 2017

The University of Exeter Apprenticeships programme has been shortlisted as a finalist for the “Early Career Employment Programme” award.  The 8th annual HRD Awards celebrates innovatively designed and executed HR strategies that have contributed to outstanding business.

The Early Career Employment Programmes category recognises an organisation’s excellence in developing a business-led, early career training scheme – including apprenticeships, recruitment programmes and school leaver qualification-based schemes.

The judges looked for:

  • Attractiveness of the scheme/programme and innovative methods and tools used to attract talent
  • Clear links between the training scheme/programme and the strategic goals of the business
  • Evidence of strong retention rates at the end of the program/qualification
  • A clear and measurable return on investment.

The University of Exeter apprenticeship strategy will boost workforce capability, through ‘growing our own’ talent from a variety of entry routes, and enhancing skills of our existing staff to meet our existing and future skills gaps.

We aim to lead by example in the HE sector and champion the Government’s apprenticeship reforms by ensuring we strive towards our strategic objective of “Supporting our people to make the exceptional happen” and effectively utilising apprenticeship resources to maximise outcomes that benefit the University.

We are taking on enthusiastic and motivated apprentices, at all levels, across the University, on all our campuses.  Apprenticeships help to increase social mobility, upskill and multi skill our current workforce, and could ultimately improve productivity and staff retention.

The University of Exeter is proud to support apprenticeships.  We believe that apprenticeships will develop talent in the South West and will give people the opportunity to work in a Russell Group University.

Our apprentices perform exceptionally well and are able to add value to their teams from the day they join.  We are committed to continuing our apprenticeship programme and building upon it year on year.
