Getting here

Exeter University is accessible by a range of transport options. The following information and links may help you with your travel planning:

By train:

Exeter’s main train station is Exeter St Davids, which is roughly a 20 minute walk or 5-10 minute taxi ride from both the University campus and the city centre. Rail services are also available to Exeter Central, which is located in the centre of the city, and around a 25 minute walk or 10 minute taxi ride to the University campus.

There are regular direct train services from London Paddington (Great Western Railway, 2-2.5 hours) and London Waterloo (Southwest Trains, 3-3.5 hours), as well as services from the Midlands (CrossCountry, 2.5-3 hours), Scotland (CrossCountry, 7-8 hours), and South Wales (Great Western Railway 2-2.5 hours).

Within the South West, there are regular trains to Exeter from Bristol Temple Meads (Great Western Railway, 1 hour), Plymouth (Great Western Railway/CrossCountry, 1 hour) and Cornwall (Great Western Railway/CrossCountry, 2-3 hours).

By Coach/Bus

National Express offer direct coach services from Bristol (2 hours), London (4-4.5 hours), and Birmingham (4-5 hours). The Exeter Bus and Coach station is located in the city centre and is roughly a 25 minute walk or 10 minute taxi ride from the University.

Local bus services within Exeter are provided by Stagecoach. There are regular (approximately every 10-15 minutes) services from the city centre to the  University campus, which cost £1 per single journey. By Air

Exeter International Airport is the local airport and offers both European and domestic flights. There is a regular bus service that runs between the airport and Exeter St Davids station.

Bristol Airport is located approximately 110 km away, and provides flights to/from a wider range of destinations. The Bristol Flyer bus services runs regularly from the airport to Bristol Temple Meads station, which is then an hour’s train journey from Exeter.

For delegates flying into London Heathrow, there is a direct coach service between the airport and Exeter operated by National Express (4-4.5 hours). Alternatively, the Heathrow Express train runs between Heathrow and London Paddington, where you can then board direct train services to Exeter.

By Car

The M4/M5 links Exeter directly to London, the Midlands, South Wales and the North including Scotland. The average journey time from either London or the Midlands is 3 hours. For more detailed driving instructions, please click here.

Parking: Please note that there is limited parking available on the University Campus. Visitors are able to park in Car Park C, or in the 15 marked spaces in Car Park A, both of which are marked on the campus map. All cars must have a valid pay and display ticket, which are available from the machines located in the car parks (currently £6 per day).

Taxis

Apple Taxis (+441392 666666) is the University’s preferred supplier, and has offices at both St Davids train station and Exeter Airport. If you are travelling to the conference venue by taxi, please ask the driver to take you to Queens Building on the University Campus.
