Hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas and great start to 2016!

Following a revision filled Christmas period, I am looking forward to starting the second semester after completing exams in January. To go out on placement with IBM this year I need to achieve a 2:1 within my studies for second year so I am hoping to have secured good results to take off the pressure in summer exam season. I’d highly recommend preparing well for the winter examinations (although this revision may be alongside applications for companies) as it helps increase your confidence entering in May.

As the weather starts to improve here in Exeter I am starting to think about the exciting opportunities that lie ahead in the summer and the next year on placement in London. I have started getting in contact with others who are on placement with IBM in Exeter and it is great to find out where different people are based. Through IBM connections I have also been able to get to know some of my colleagues from other universities across the country who will be at Southbank from July.

Second year is going by so quickly which has made me realise that I need to appreciate and experience as much of Exeter while I still can. I am also making the most of university life with many of my friends who will graduate during the year I am out on placement.  I am running Rock Solid Race which is a 10k obstacle course in mud to raise money for three fantastic local charities – Exeter Student Volunteers, Exeter Leukaemia Fund and St Loye’s Foundation. It should be a lot of fun doing a muddy obstacle course with some of my friends and all of it is made worthwhile to support the great work that these charities do.

Good luck to those who are still within the application process for placements 2016-17 and students who are entering the final months of their placement.
