Community Day at Llanbedr Village Hall
On 13th and 14th October 2017, we held a Community Open Day at Llanbedr Village Hall together with Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales. Our lead scientist, Prof. Stephen Hesselbo, gave a presentation about the project to a group of around 15 people on the evening of 13th October. The following day gave around 50 visitors an opportunity to learn more about the science behind the project, provided geology activities for families, saw expert discussions about fossil and rock specimen, and heard stories from locals recalling the predecessor project from the 1960s.
Selected information about the original Mochras drilling project will be placed in the National Museum Archive. The new drilling project will now take place in autumn/winter 2018-2019 or later in a location yet to be determined, and will likely be accompanied by a visitor centre on site to inform anybody interested about the drilling, and the development of online educational resources around the project. We’re looking forward to sharing progess of the project and future events with communities locally and further afield!
