Two Postdoctoral Positions in the Statistical Physics Group Department of Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, Denmark.
Applications are invited for two post-doctoral positions in Statistical
Both positions are initially for one year.
An extension to a second year for each position may be made by mutual
The research subjects are:
a) Heat-management in microscopic systems
This is joint experimental-theoretical project, and the successful
candidate will work on the theoretical part: s/he will develop analytic
and numerical tools to describe the thermodynamic observables in
out-of-equilibrium microscopic systems, both in the classical and
quantum regime. In particular, we want to theoretically and numerically
characterize the thermodynamic properties of linear strings of
laser-cooled and trapped ions and optomechanical arrays of
nano-membranes, which are experimentally studied at the Department of
Physics and Astronomy, Aarhus University, Denmark (Groups of Prof. M.
Drewsen and Ass. Prof. A. Dantan).
b) Stochastic thermodynamics in interacting many-particle systems.
The successful candidate will investigate the thermodynamic properties
of interacting microscopic machines that exhibit dynamical phase
In particular, the fluctuations of the injected and extracted power, and
of the efficiency will be theoretically and numerically studied.
Candidates with demonstrated experience in one or both projetcs’ topics
are encouraged to apply.
Informal inquiries can be made to Alberto Imparato: firstname.lastname@example.org
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Physics. The salary and appointment
terms are consistent with the current collective agreement for Danish
Position a) is available immediately.
Position b) is available starting from 1 November 2016, or immediately
Applications with a cover letter, where the applicant indicates
interest in position a) or b), must contain: 1) a curriculum vitae, 2) a list of publications, 3) statement of research experience and research interests (no longer than 1 page) to be sent to Alberto Imparato email@example.com. All documents MUST BE PACKED into a single pdf-file
Furthermore the applicant should arrange for two reference letters to be sent to the same address.
