Professor Susan Molyneux-Hodgson (Principal Investigator)

Professor Susan Molyneux-Hodgson | Sociology, Philosophy ...Susan is a sociologist of science, working in the field of science and technology studies. She has traced the development of synthetic biology since ~ 2007 and through a series of projects. These have explored some of the ways the emergence of the field has been narrated; how different kinds of physical scientists and engineers have engaged with bioscientific work; and how new forms of bioscience come about through interdisciplinary practice.  At present, Susan is leading the ReAlChem-RI project (funded by iUK) and a BBSRC funded project, both with academic and non-academic scientists to understand how ideas of responsible innovation are mobilised in everyday practice. Susan is the strand leader of the “Responsible Innovation in Practice” research strand at Egenis.

Dr Achim Rosemann (Lead Researcher Social Science Component)

Achim has an interdisciplinary background in science and technology studies (STS), medical anthropology as well as China and East Asian studies, with fieldwork experience in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the UK. His work has explored innovation processes in stem cell research and regenerative medicine, genetic testing and since 2016 human genome editing. He is the lead researcher of the social science component of the ReAlchem Project, focusing on the use of responsible research and innovation ideas in the UK biotech industry.

Dr Sally Atkinson (Research Associate)

Meet the Team – DETOXSally works on the anthropology of science and technology. Her research includes the study of evolving national and transnational research agendas, and the development of multi-disciplinary research platforms in experimental research and bioinformatics. Supported by the ESRC and MRC and working across public-private partnerships, her work has examined how researchers experience emerging infrastructures in the development of collaborative scientific innovations. In the ReAlChem project Sally will be working with participating researchers to understand how ‘responsible research innovation’ is developed in practice.
