Day out at Taunton

As a postgraduate student, days off are rare and precious! While I love my course, the occasional break is always welcome! So on my day off, I went to Taunton for a visit. It’s a quaint little town, barely a half hour train ride away from Exeter.  I took the train from Exeter St. Davids and arrived at Taunton 25 minutes later. Read on to find out how my Taunton adventure went.

Exploring Cornwall – The Lizard point

When you see all those beautiful pictures of nice beaches, turquoise water, massive rocks and sunny weather, you always imagine it’s somewhere far away in a tropical country, but here is an example of what you can see right next to you while studying at the University of Exeter in Cornwall. Incredible, right?! A year and a half ago, I would not believe that I would be able to see this in England. (more…)

Travelling to Mainland Europe from Exeter

Before I decided to study at Exeter, I wondered how difficult it would be to travel from Exeter. I worried that I might not be able to take advantage of living so close to Mainland Europe because of how far I thought I was going to be. But I was completely wrong, traveling to Mainland Europe from Exeter is just as easy as traveling from London. So if you are an international student worried about how Exeter may be “in the middle of nowhere”, I’m about to prove you wrong!

Top 5 Instagram Spots in Exeter

Top 5 Instagram Spots in Exeter

As someone who loves photography, here are my top 5 spots in Exeter to Instagram.

1. Exeter Quay

The Exeter Quayside is a ten minute walk from the city centre, and one of my favourite spots Exeter. Watch the swans, or enjoy the student favourite ‘On The Waterfront’  for delicious pizzas. During the summer, the quayside is the best place to canoe or kayak, or cycle down to the Exeter Canal Cycle Route.

Off to the moors!

In and around Exeter, there are several stunning places to visit. One of the places much featured in literature and films is Dartmoor. From Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1902 novel Hound of Baskerville featuring Sherlock Holmes to the 2012 film War Horse, this somewhat mysterious, sometimes spooky and all-time gorgeous place keeps inspiring people through the ages.

A day trip to Teignmouth

What if I told you that you are only 40 minutes away from this beautiful view?

Yes, go ahead, go buy your £5 return tickets to Teignmouth now! Before I moved to Exeter, I never expected to be so close to so many amazing hidden gems in the UK. Teignmouth is a small (but stunning) coastal town in Devon with long sandy beaches and great local food. It’s the perfect weekend getaway for those who need a break from deadlines.

Stunning landscape, flaming barrels, scones to die for – what makes Devon a must-visit destination?

When I applied for university last year, I couldn’t make it to an Open Day in Exeter. quay I tried to ask around and get as much information as I could about the campus and the area. One thing I was constantly said by friends and that was emphasised on all the websites I looked at was how beautiful the South West was and how great the weather could be here compared to other parts of the UK. As I arrived on a rather sunny weekend in September, I faced the greenest campus I could have imagined and the most amazing view I could wake up to. Even though I was yet to explore all the beauties and treasures the area had to offer, I knew instantly that I chose the right place. One year was hardly enough to discover everything I wanted and there are still dozens of places I long to go to. For now, here are some of the locations I visited and things I did during my first year, all of which I would highly recommend to anyone coming to Devon.

Road tripper’s guide to Cornwall: My 12 favourite destinations

Though student life has kept me very busy, I have had a few chances to branch out and explore what Cornwall has to offer. Travelling around can be tricky if you don’t have a car, although most popular destinations are reachable by bus.
