Tescan Vega 3TESCAN

Over the past few months technicians from both Penryn and Streatham have been working hard to obtain funding, scrutinise systems and bring two new SEM systems to their respective campuses. Judith Bannerman from Streatham and Joe Pickles from Penryn were key in starting the campaign to obtain funding for two new SEM systems as both the Penryn and Streatham systems were over 20 years old and failing. Once the funding was obtained they then included other key players such as Gavyn Rollinson, Sharon Uren, Malcolm Spence (Penryn) and Hong Chang (Streatham) in order to gauge the overall use of the machine, what improvements could be made when purchasing a new system and what key elements were required.

Thanks to everybody who had input, the team is happy to announce that two new VEGA3 SEM systems with EDS from TESCAN will be installed by the start of next term! These systems will improve research, allow greater access for undergraduates and post graduates as well as allow for external work to be done in order to cover some running costs.

As the team moves closer to the installation date more information will emerge about the new system and we will keep you updated! For new here are some images of the new system and some of its applications.
