The Culture Yard Project captures resources designed for use in Devon & South West of England schools and representative of ‘Black British’ diaspora and indigenous communities. ‘Black British’ is complex social identity, which describes indigenous and diaspora communities who are racialized or identify culturally or trace ancestry to the African continent. It is also synonymous with those who feel that their common experience of racism outweighs cultural differences.

This website was developed in November 2019 to accompany emergent research by Malcolm Richards (Graduate School of Education),  which explores how education professionals in rural schools mediate and evaluate resources representative ’Black British’ diaspora and indigenous communities. The research seeks to develop a framework for resource evaluation and archiving, which advanced notions of a culturally sustaining pedagogy (Paris, 2012) for dialogic methodologies in rural
