About

This blog was renamed “Work In Progress” on the 7th of April 2011. It was previously the “Web Innovation Project” blog, but that project came to an end on the 25th of March 2011.

The purpose of the blog under its new title is to allow contributors from across the University to share ideas and developments related to IT Innovation. Seeing as innovation is constantly ‘work in progress’, it seemed an apt way to continue to host the blog under it’s existing web address though with a slightly new spin.

History of the Web Innovation Project

The Web Innovation Project was set-up in June 2009, with a  broad remit to research and develop “Web 2.0” style innovations for the benefit of the wider University. The Project involved Rob Mitchell (University Web Editor), Sue Milward (Head of Integration & Web Services), Rich Osborne & Darren Davies (both Web Innovation Officers).

The project ran until March 2011, and focused on topics such as:

  • Web mapping and geolocation
  • The semantic web, including microformats and the concept of “Linked Data”
  • Mobile & Touch technologies
  • Podcasting
