Social networking has rapidly moved beyond just a casual pursuit by the technically minded, and become a world wide obsession with all ages and all types of people involved. But even for something that is now so commonplace, most people are still not really sure what to do with it, which means most businesses are not really using it to their best advantage.
This short video from the Socialnomics blog tries to address the issue of ROI for social networking, and although firmly centered around commerce it’s an interesting 4 minutes, that might well provoke some though around our own business of education.
Quite apart from the value of such tools to spread the word about the type of courses we offer, the idea of spreading learning in such a way is much more interesting. If we can find a way to encapsulate how we’ve come to understand something and share so directly, so widely, and so immediately with our peers, thus allowing them to do the same, we might perhaps tap into a richer seam of Technology Enhanced Learning than we’ve so far been able to.
