XM2 thesis submitted by Tom Graham: Underwater Acoustic Waves on Structured and Unstructured Plates

Very many congratulations to the EPSRC CDT in Metamaterials PGR Tom Graham who recently submitted his PhD thesis titled “Underwater Acoustic Waves on Structured and Unstructured Plates”. Tom was supervised by Professor Roy Sambles (FRS), Professor Alastair Hibbins and Dr Simon Horsley. He worked closely with Thales and undertook several research visits to Templecombe and other Thales sites. In addition, he attended conferences in Perugia Italy (CIMTEC 2016), Cranfield (Defence Symposium 2017) and Imperial College London (European Acoustic Metamaterial Workshop 2018) presenting his work to international audiences.

Tom acted as a reliable and skilled photographer for XM² and captured a lot of our events to showcase our CDT on social media and promotional material. He undertook outreach activities, e.g. at the Big Bang event and a “Future First” assembly talk to year 7 students at Tiverton High school in 2015, the Festival of Physics in 2016 and inspired the wider public at the Chagstock Music Festival (2016) on behalf of the IOP with a variety of scientific demonstrations.

Well done Tom!
