Final year PGR James Capers attended the ‘Mathematical Theory and Applications of Multiple Wave Scattering’ Winter School held at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge University.
The Winter School was a mix of lectures from mathematicians about wave scattering theory, talks from industry representative from organisations such as DSTL, The Smith Institute and Thales about their interest in wave problems as well as group activities for early career researchers. One of the group activities was a coding challenge to work out the placement of scatterers necessary to create a bright spot in a specific location with James part of the winning team.
James gave the following view of the event:
The winter school was a great opportunity to learn a lot from great researchers on the theory of wave scattering. Networking outside the usual metamaterials community was also very valuable, leading to several simulating discussions and useful feedback on my work from different perspectives. The group activities gave lots of opportunity to digest the content of the lectures, as well as to meet up and coming researchers in the field.
