Being a visiting European Doctorate PhD student at the University of Exeter for three months has been a very rewarding experience for our respective theses but also for our personal lives. On the academic side, the Modern Languages Department of the University has offered us everything we need to derive full benefit of our stay including a magnificent library, the support of wonderful teachers and researchers, the valuable opportunity of presenting our work in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Film Research and the possibility of collaborating with the Spanish Unit presenting two different film screenings. Furthermore, we have been invited to attend all the conferences and presentations that have been organized by the Centre for Translating Cultures, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Film Research and the Spanish Unit. In these events, we have been fortunate enough to listen to Mar Diestro-Dópido (film critic), Roger Luckhurst (Professor of English and Humanities at the University of Birkbeck) and Ian Christie (Professor of Film and Media History at Birkbeck College). In addition, having the chance to take part in the “Contemporary Debates in Cinema” Reading Group has allowed us to get in touch with PhD students who might come from different backgrounds but share similar interests, which facilitates the exchange of references and perspectives.

With regards to our personal lives, the friendly city of Exeter has helped us to make new contacts and it has been the perfect base to visit the stunning region of the South West, full of history and breath-taking landscapes.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to kindly thank Professor Sally Faulkner, our supervisor, for having done everything within her ability to make our stay excellent in every respect.
