We know that the Forum Library can get very busy during peak times of day, especially as deadlines or exams approach. You’ve told us that it causes problems when other Library users take up more than one space or “save seats” by leaving their belongings and then going away.

In response, we worked closely with the Student’s Guild Representatives and with individual students to come up with guidelines for using study seats in our Library spaces.

What to do:

When taking a break of up to 45 minutes: please always leave a card, fill in the time you left and be sure to return on time.

If you will be gone longer than 45 minutes: please clear your desk so that others can use the space.

Remember the Library is a public space! Never leave valuables unattended; always take them with you.

If you find a desk that has been left unattended for over 45 minutes then you have permission to move any belongings to the side and use the space.

Each card can be reused multiple times.

This is a student-led scheme. Let’s work together to uphold these guidelines and make the most of shared library spaces.

Users of PI Navigator, our global company filings database, will notice some changes when next accessing the database. The database in its original form is being retired and we have now been transferred to the newly upgraded Filings Expert database.

Filings Expert retains and builds upon many of the features of PI Navigator, and offers a much improved user interface and more advanced search functionality.

Like PI Navigator, Filings Expert offers access to global public company disclosures for over 60,000 companies; providing investor presentations, annual reports, SEC filings and more; including searchable equity, debt and M&A transaction documents.

You can access the upgraded PI Navigator / Filings Expert resource via the A-Z Databases list. It is currently highlighted in the ‘New / Trial Databases’ section on the right of the page.

Within the resource, you can access a range of support materials to help navigate the new interface. Simply select the ‘Options’ tab at the top of the page, and choose ‘Help’.

If you have any questions about the changes to the database, please feel free to contact *protected email*.

Artemis Willis Poster Design: Vicki Bowring

Since 2015 the University of Exeter has been a leading partner in the ‘Million Pictures’ European research project investigating the history and usage of magic lantern slides in educational contexts, coordinated in the UK by Professor Joe Kember of the English Department.

As part of the impact of this innovative and successful project, the public are now offered a rare opportunity to experience a spectacular magic lantern event in a public city-centre venue.

Magic and the Muse, a magic lantern spectacle, will take place on the evening of 12 January at the Barnfield Theatre, Exeter. Both original and specially-created lantern slides will be shown and a genuine Victorian triple lantern will be used. The lantern show will be accompanied by live music, creating a fantastic combination of music, performance and projection, including a rare demonstration of projection onto a ‘living screen’.
