Sixth form college students and other local young people worked with theatre facilitator, Rachel Vowles, and museum consultant, Julian Vayne, to produce creative responses to historical objects using drama, dance, music, art and film making and explore ideas around relationships, sexuality, gender, identity and emotions throughout history and today.

This short animation made by Exeter Foyer residents, with support from Cricklepit Media, responds to sexually related artefacts in the medical history collection of Sir Henry Wellcome.

“The historical objects opened our minds to new ideas. It made us be more mature in the way we thought about sex. We all discovered things about ourselves”. – Alex, young participant.

“The objects are surprising and provoked discussion and make it okay to talk about sex… The students unburdened stuff they wanted to talk about, we’ve never found a better way to do it. It was a revelation….”  Rev Hammer, Academy of Music and Sound, Exeter.
