Before I received my IB results in 2018, I consulted my University Guidance Counsellor about Clearing as a contingency plan in case things didn’t go my way. I learnt what I needed to do should I ever end up in that position and I felt prepared with having a contingency plan. When I received my IB result, they did not meet the requirements of my chosen Universities therefore as soon as it was confirmed I got into Clearing, that was when I enacted my plan.
Here are tips that I would advise regarding Clearing: (more…)

I decided that I wanted a new adventure in July last year – I had never really thought about the idea of going to university but something clicked last summer about wanting to go and it’s the best decision I have ever made. I started looking at courses and decided that if I was ever going to go to university, it was going to be Exeter!
After finding MSci Nursing on their clearing choices, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. (more…)

Entering the clearing process for me was a shock. I never imagined that I would be in that situation and panicking was not ideal during the circumstance I was in. The factor that helped me the most during this process was my family. I had my mum doing some research and my sister looking at the universities in detail. After hours of phone calls, I finally narrowed my options down to University of Exeter to study LLB Law with business. Yes! (more…)

I’m Poppy, studying Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter, a course which I secured through Clearing. At GCSE I got 8 A*, 1 A and 1 B. I was predicted A*AA at A-level. I applied for International Relations and Arabic, and got places at Exeter, Leeds, York, Warwick and Bath. Exeter was my first choice, and Leeds was my insurance choice. Here is my experience of Clearing. (more…)

Tip 1: Plan ahead
I hadn’t really thought about studying abroad before the release of my public exam results but I still applied to several UK universities as a back-up plan. Once I got my results, I knew I was not able to meet the entry requirements of local universities and I changed my mind about my previous UCAS applications. That was when I turned to Clearing for more options. (more…)

I worked at several education fairs last summer on behalf of the University of Exeter and there were a few questions that were popular from prospective students and their parents. I have compiled a list of questions and answered them here, hopefully it is helpful to all international students who may be wondering some of the same things.

My degree: BA Liberal Arts (majoring in English with proficiency in French)
I hadn’t really thought about about studying abroad before the release of my exam results, but I applied to UK universities as a back-up plan so decided to apply for a subject I was quite interested in. Once I got my results I found that I couldn’t apply for my subject in local Hong Kong universities so I turned to Clearing for more options.

If you’ve applied through UCAS and are very worried, or even absolutely certain that your exams did not go well at all, you might be looking into Clearing right now. It seems extremely uncertain and daunting, but what you can always do is call the universities you’re interested in attending and ask if you could talk to someone to discuss options with you. After you’ve received your results and are either unhappy with your options or haven’t received the grades needed for them, you’ll be going through Clearing. (more…)
