Raising money for the Turkey-Syria Earthquake Crisis
On Monday 27 March, the Exeter Athletics society, down here on the Cornwall campus, organised a colour run to help raise money for those affected by the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit near the border between Turkey and Syria in February. Around 50 people showed up to either support or take-part in the 5k run for £2, which snaked around campus starting from outside the exchange.
Before starting, the first of the powder paint was bought and thrown on runners as the final set-up was completed. 3, 2, 1 GO!! The runners set off in clouds of colour, with cheering and applause from spectators and campus students (some even from the sustainability café balcony!). Five colour stations had been periodically placed around the campus route, where support was yelled, and EVEN MORE powder paint was thrown onto the runners!
After around 25 minutes had passed, runners started to reach the finish line to more applause and congratulations and any extra donations were collected. In total, over £100 was raised and given to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) Turkey-Syria earthquake crisis appeal from this event alone. Well done to everyone who took part!
