This December I attended the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Engage Conference, held in Bristol. The aim of the yearly conference is to provide an opportunity for all those interested in public engagement in higher education to come together, to be inspired, challenged and refreshed.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Disruption’, which served as inspiration for two intense days of presentations, workshops and informal chats.
I found the conference inspiring and audacious. Compared to last year’s conference, I felt there was a more sincere and reflective undertone to conversations around public engagement in higher education, around the role of the university in civil society, and around how we as a sector can change research culture.
