COVID-NURSE trial: site recruitment now closed

We have recruited our target number of sites so we will not be recruiting any more trusts to take part in the COVID-NURSE trial.  We would like to thank everyone who expressed an interest.  You can follow our progress by reading the newsletters sent out to sites. Links to papers that have been written as a result of our work so far can be found on our news page

Survey now live!

The survey is the first stage of the COVID-NURSE project, and aims to collect innovations in practice and any novel approaches being used by front line clinical staff and their managers/leaders when addressing the fundamental care needs of non-invasively ventilated patients with COVID-19 in hospital. The survey will be open for three weeks from Monday 3rd August until Monday 24th August 2020.

Results of the survey will inform the development of a new nursing protocol which will be co-created by patients, nurses and other health care workers using data from the survey and from a rapid review of existing evidence which is currently ongoing.

We will then undertake a randomised controlled trial across 18 NHS sites to determine the impact of the protocol on patient experience, care quality, patients’ ability to manage day-to-day activities, treatment outcomes and costs.

The team has been awarded £430,000 to set up the ‘COVID-NURSE’ trial, which will evaluate the impact on patient experience of a combination of specific nursing innovations.

Generated by a consortium of universities and NHS trusts, to develop and test nursing innovations for fundamental care with patients who have COVID-19, this evidence will help nursing teams nationally and internationally to adopt best practice.
