The TOGA (The Oral Glucose tolerance testing study in Africa) study is a cross-over intervention study that is planned to take place in the MRC/UVRI cohort population in rural Uganda. The aim is to assess whether there is variation in Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) results when participants are given a very low carbohydrate or a high carbohydrate meal the night before the test. The results of the study will help inform the utility of this test in epidemiological studies and in diagnosis of diabetes in regions with high levels of food insecurity and a rising prevalence of diabetes.
