Here is a list of the research interests and research support expertise of current staff. The Craft of Writing: a project exploring how giving teachers an experience of a residential creative writing course changes their teaching of writing.
Transforming Transitions: a project exploring students’ experience of the transition from post-16 education to university with a focus on BTEC students and widening participation students.
Dialogue and Erasure: a project collaborating with a Brazilian team, investigating children’s thinking about writing as revealed when they collaborate on writing .
Improving classroom writing by enhancing reflexive decisions and practice: a project with Australian universities of Macquarie, Wollongong and Queensland exploring primary school children’s reflections and decision-making during writing.
Grammar and writing: a SSIF funded project, developing understanding of the relationship between grammar and choice in writing.
Writing the Future: this study is based in Qatar and looks at metadiscourse (how we position ourselves with the reader) in academic writing. It addresses second language learners of English but the concept of metadiscourse is relevant in England to both EAL teaching and academic writing across the curriculum.
