Dr Andy Jones – Impact Fellow

Dr Andy Jones is working on developing an ethical framework specifically targeting issues arising in the nuclear industry. His work in this area focuses on developing resources for an ethics of nuclear energy, which is comparatively under-researched alongside ethical perspectives on nuclear weaponry. Andy has developed and delivered an optional MSc module in collaboration with Dr Robbie Mackenize (University of Bristol) at the South West Nuclear Hub. Andy has also delivered training for multiple years for the Nuclear Energies Future Centre for Doctoral Training. He has recently been developing opportunities in this area and recently completed SHAPE pre – accelerator programme considering how to build from this research to engage with industry partners.

Andy is an Impact Fellow for humanities, arts, and social sciences, who has recently completed a secondment with the knowledge transfers partnerships as an Enterprise and Innovation Manager. Andy’s academic background is in history and philosophy of science, especially Kant’s influence on the development of biology. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher in Theology and Religion examining the relationship between religion and science. The Templeton funded project was called God and the Book of Nature. His recent publications include his book, How Kant Matters for Biology (UWP, 2023), and a forthcoming co-edited special issue on ‘Kant and Natural Science’, published with Kantian Review.
